Jeans are a staple item in any woman’s wardrobe, and that’s a fact. Whether they are boot cut, skinny, capri, straight leg or shorts, you want them to last you a lifetime. In order for them to last a lifetime, you need to give them some love and treat them a little differently than your other clothes. Here are a couple tips to keep your jeans looking like new forever.
Don’t Wash
Good news for those laundry haters out there, you don’t have to wash your jeans that often! If you wash your jeans too much they will fade from that perfect dark wash you love. In a Fortune video, CEO and President of Levi, Chip Bergh stated that “A good pair of jeans doesn’t really need to be washed in the washing machine except for very infrequently or rarely.”
Wash
If you feel the need to wash your jeans, you should do it sparingly. Washing them inside out helps protect the color from fading and also helps to keep the fabric from hitting the other garments inside the washing machine. You should wash your jeans on the coldest setting to keep them from fading as well. If you want to take extra precaution so your perfect jeans don’t fade, you can wash them by hand. Put your jeans in a sink filled with cold water and add just the smallest amount of detergent. Come back in an hour or so, rinse them out and they are good to go!
Dry
Air drying is the best method for drying your jeans to last a lifetime. Put your washed jeans, inside out, in direct sunlight and they will dry quickly. If you are in a rush and you want to machine dry your jeans, do it on a low heat setting in its own cycle so they don’t get caught on other pieces of clothing. You should take them out when they are still damp and lay flat or hang upside down until they are completely dry.
